The first Interdisciplinary Initiative Roundtable: "Cross-fertilizing Psychology & Buddhist Studies Teaching and Research" was held the morning of Aug.20, 2020. Prof. Guo Chaoshun, chief organizer of the CBS Interdisciplinary Initiative invited special guest Prof. Yuan Zhiqi (Head of Furen University Dept. of Psychology); and the participating faculty included Prof. Lin Wenying (FGU Dean of Academic Affairs & Dept. of Psychology Adjunct Professor), Prof. Wan Jinchuan (CBS Director), and Prof. Lin Hsinyi (CBS Executive Secretary).

Prof. Guo outlined possibilities for interdisciplinary partnership between the Dept. of Buddhist Studies and the Dept. of Psychology, and the harmonization of very distinct expertises developed based on very different objectives. Dean Wan expressed his support for the budding project and his optimism that there may be initial results to report next year. As of now, CBS intends to launch the Interdisciplinary Initiative as a one- to three-year plan.  The Interdisciplinary Initiative is envisioned as an integrated platform of academic exchange centered around Buddhism, to facilitate constructive dialogue with all the departments and disciplines across Fo Guang University, beginning first with the Dept. of Psychology.
