This semester, the Center for Buddhist Studies is pleased to present a series of lectures and workshops covering a wide range of topics, including Buddhist history, thought, art, and textual studies. Through various forms of academic exchange, these events aim to broaden perspectives in Buddhist studies and foster interdisciplinary dialogue. Faculty members, students, and anyone interested in Buddhist studies are warmly invited to participate.
The program features four major series of events:
1. International Scholars Lecture Series
This series invites distinguished international scholars to share their latest research and engage in cross-cultural academic dialogue.

Prof. Ann Heirman (Ghent University, Belgium)
Lecture: Animals in the Daily Life of the Saṅgha: From India to China
This talk explores the relationship between monastic communities and animals through Vinaya texts and historical sources. -
Prof. Yanagi Mikiyasu 柳 幹康 (The University of Tokyo, Japan)
A three-lecture series focusing on topics in Buddhist studies and the history of Chan/Zen Buddhism. -
Prof. Hisanori Kuramoto 倉本 尚德 (Kyoto University, Japan)
A lecture examining the historical background and intellectual significance of Daoxuan’s Illustrated Scripture.
2. Buddhist Art Lecture Series
This series approaches Buddhism from the perspectives of visual culture and art history, guiding participants to understand the historical contexts and religious meanings embedded in Buddhist artistic traditions.
3. Vietnamese Buddhist Text Reading Group
Through collaborative reading and discussion of Vietnamese Buddhist texts, this reading group aims to deepen understanding of the history and culture of Buddhism in Southeast Asia.
4. Buddhist Teaching Workshop
Focused on practical exchange, this workshop provides a platform to share teaching methods and course design in Buddhist studies, promoting pedagogical innovation and professional development.
