[Vietnamese Buddhist Studies Online Reading Group] "Vietnamese Hán-Nôm Inscriptions, Volume I: From the Northern Influence (Bắc thuộc) Era through the Lê Dynasty": Stele Inscriptions
Date: April 7, 2022
Time: 19:00-21:00
Location: ZOOM

Now in its fourth semester, the "Vietnamese Buddhist Studies Online Reading Group" is led by Dr. Li Guimin, researcher at the Center for Multicultural Studies, National Cheng-Kung University.  This semester's main reading materials are extractions from "Vietnamese Hán-Nôm Inscriptions, Volume I: From the Northern Influence (Bắc thuộc) Period through the Lê Dynasty".

Since the 7th century, inscriptions in Chinese characters on temple bells, stone steles, or stone cliffs in Vietnam have served as enduring intentional historical records left for posterity.  Due to Vietnam's moist tropical climate, inscriptions survive longer than paper and books, and each inscription has its own unique historical account, usually not documented elsewhere.  Dr. LI, an expert in Vietnamese Buddhist Studies, will share with us his experiences in decoding and interpreting ancient Hán inscriptions.

Our online reading group is open to all interested participants, Zoom link available here:
