Since 2021, the "Records of Buddhist Temples in Yilan County" research project, led by Professor Kan Cheng-zong with support from the Center for Buddhist Studies, has been steadily unfolding. After years of dedicated fieldwork and literature compilation, the research results have been published in succession, culminating in a complete four-volume set. Notably, the fourth volume is dedicated to the development of Fo Guang Shan’s Dharma propagation in Yilan.
This year’s exhibition serves as the culminating presentation of this project. Curated under the theme "70th Anniversary of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Dharma Propagation in Yilan," the exhibition utilizes historical documents, archival images, and interview findings to reconstruct the trajectory and historical scenes of Fo Guang Shan’s spiritual work in the region.
The exhibition also reviews the compilation process of the Records of Buddhist Temples in Yilan County, showcasing precious records of early temple imagery, architectural evolution, and the propagation activities of both monastics and the laity. This collection is not only a significant microcosm of local Buddhist history but also a testament to how Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s spirit of Humanistic Buddhism has taken deep root in Yilan. By presenting academic research alongside historical materials, we hope to offer visitors a renewed understanding of how Buddhism takes root, endures, and interacts with the changing times in a local context.
