▣ Event Introduction:

For this session of the "Vietnamese Buddhist Literature Online Reading Group," we have invited Professor Liu Yu-jun (Professor, School of Humanities, Southwest Jiaotong University) to lead the discussion on the topic: "The Popular Cultural Characteristics of Ancient Vietnamese Texts" (The Naturalization of Chinese Classics in Vietnam).

From the perspective of 21st-century Chinese scholarship, ancient Vietnamese Sino-Nom texts represent a corpus of materials urgently awaiting excavation and recognition.

They are not merely historical documents recording thousands of years of socio-cultural activities of the peoples in the Red River and Mekong River basins; nor are they merely literary documents reflecting the creativity of the Vietnamese people in poetry, fiction, drama, and folk arts.

Moreover, they are a unique crystallization of Chinese culture in Vietnam, representing a significant method of utilizing Chinese characters to record history and culture. These ancient texts exhibit a unique style distinct from those of other nations in terms of transcription and printing, dissemination, and bibliographic classification. Consequently, they possess significant value for academic research.

Let us follow Professor Liu’s footsteps to gain a deeper understanding!
